ALEX ROLLINS BERG is a writer and director based in New York City.

The son of two journalists, Alex specializes in visceral, tightly-crafted thrillers and dramas about contemporary life that seek to humanize, not moralize.

Alex received the Blacklist and Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Fellowship for social commentary, among other awards. His short films have screened in Oscar-qualifying festivals all over the world. As a commercial director, he has made spots for some of the world’s top brands, including Nokia, Smirnoff, Procter & Gamble and McDonald’s.

Alex is a teacher and writer/director in residence for the NYU Tisch Drama program at Stonestreet Studios, where he has written and directed over 70 short films since Fall 2021. His weekly newsletter, Underexposed, has attracted thousands of readers and is one of the top rated film publications on Substack.

Alex started his film career annotating the script for the Academy Award-winning film Capote. He has since worked as a storyboard artist, title card designer, cinematographer, editor and agency producer.

An enthusiastic explorer, he shot helicopter search-and-rescue missions with the Coast Guard in Alaska, and is currently developing projects in Brazil and Nepal. He lives in NYC with his wife.
